Article updated on 04.03.26

The Flims Laax region, located in the canton of Graubünden, is mainly known for its large ski area and lively atmosphere. In winter, people mostly come here to ski, but also to enjoy the scenery and the many activities around the villages.

Here are a few ideas to help you plan a winter weekend in Flims Laax.

Skiing in Flims Laax

The Flims Laax Falera ski area is one of the largest in Switzerland, with 200 km of slopes. The runs are varied and well connected between the different sectors, making it easy to explore the entire region.

You’ll find something for everyone:

  • wide blue slopes for beginners
  • more challenging red and black runs
  • freeride areas (marked yellow routes)
  • snowparks (Laax is actually a world reference for freestyle)

Even when the weather isn’t perfect, the ski area is large enough to find great runs and explore different sectors.

Where to take a break on the slopes ?

There are many mountain restaurants and cafés. Here are a few nice spots for a break:

Other winter activities

Even though skiing remains the main activity, the region offers several alternatives to mix up your days or simply to enjoy a walk around the village.

Senda dil Dragun – Treetop Walkway

This suspended walkway crosses the forest between Laax and Flims. It stretches for more than 1.5 km and allows visitors to walk at the level of the treetops. It’s an easy activity to do in winter, with beautiful views over the snow-covered forest.

Cauma Lake and the Il Spir viewpoint

Caumasee is one of the most famous lakes in the region. In winter, it’s possible to walk around the lake before continuing to the Il Spir viewpoint, which offers an impressive view over the Rheinschlucht, also known as the “Swiss Grand Canyon.”

Snowshoeing in Cassons

For those who want to get a little further away from the ski slopes, several snowshoe trails are available, particularly around Cassons. The panoramas over the Alps and the Rhine Valley are well worth the effort.

Where to stay in Flims Laax ?

We stayed at Flem Mountain Lodge, a cozy small hotel located in the center of Flims. The place is run by two friendly twin sisters who immediately create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

In the morning, an excellent homemade breakfast is served perfect before heading out to ski. After a day on the slopes, the sauna and cold plunge are ideal for relaxing and recovering.

The hotel also has a restaurant open from Thursday to Sunday, which is also accessible to guests who are not staying at the hotel. A great place to stay for a few days in the region.

Where to eat in Flims and Laax ?

The Flims and Laax region offers several great places to eat after a day on the slopes. The options are quite varied, ranging from local cuisine to more international restaurants and vegetarian options. Whether you’re looking for a simple meal or something a bit more special, there’s plenty of variety for a weekend in the region.

A few restaurants worth trying:

  • Riders : vegetarian and vegan cuisine in a modern atmosphere
  • Ilforno : a simple and reliable Italian restaurant
  • Ustria La Cauma : local cuisine with a beautiful view over Cauma Lake
  • IKIGAI : Asian-inspired restaurant
  • Suay Thai : a great option for Thai food in Flims

Flims Laax is an ideal destination for an active winter weekend, whether as a couple or with family. Between skiing, scenic walks, and great places to eat, it’s easy to enjoy a variety of activities over a few days.

The ski area is obviously the main attraction, but the region also offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy the mountains in different ways.
