Valais: Weekend in Leukerbad between mountains and relaxation

Article updated on 17.08.25
Tucked away in the heart of Valais, Leukerbad is a destination where you can easily switch from a panoramic hike to a dip in naturally warm thermal waters. Perfect for a short or long stay, the resort combines sport, nature, and wellness. All wrapped in an authentic and welcoming atmosphere.
Where to stay in Leukerbad?
The Quellenhof is the perfect address to fully enjoy the resort. This renovated hotel with only 30 rooms offers an intimate and friendly atmosphere, with personalized hospitality from Martin, his wife, and their team.
In summer, the Quellenhof is certified as a bike hotel and offers e-bike rentals to explore the surroundings at your own pace. In winter, its location less than 400 m from the Torrentbahn lift makes it ideal for quickly reaching the ski slopes.
When it comes to dining, the hotel serves a four-course dinner menu with its half-board option: two starters, a main course, and a dessert. If you prefer à la carte dining, two house specialties are worth the trip: the tender and flavorful bison steak and their tartares, available in several variations.

What to do in Leukerbad?
Leukerbad offers a wide variety of activities, whether you’re here to hike, cycle, relax, or simply breathe in the fresh mountain air and enjoy the scenery.
Hike from the Gemmi Pass to the Lämmerenhütte
A regional classic is taking the cable car up to the Gemmi Pass (2,350 m). This natural balcony offers dizzying views over Leukerbad on one side and Lake Dauben on the other.
From the pass, a well-marked trail leads to the Lämmerenhütte, a Swiss Alpine Club hut nestled at the foot of the glaciers. Count about 9 km and +430 m of elevation gain for the round trip, through a breathtaking alpine setting.
In summer, the hut is open and serves drinks, pastries, and simple dishes. Perfect for recharging before returning the same way.

Explore the area by e-bike
For a change of pace from hiking, the Beizu Tour is an ideal route to explore by e-bike. This 10 km loop (+420 m) leads up to Majingsee, a small alpine lake tucked away in lush greenery.
The route alternates between small paved roads, unpaved trails, and a few slightly technical sections, but remains accessible for beginners with an e-bike. The lake makes the perfect picnic spot, with mountain views in the background, before cruising back down to the village.

Relax in the thermal baths
It’s impossible to visit Leukerbad without enjoying its famous hot springs. The water naturally emerges at 51°C and is cooled to 36-40°C for bathing. Indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, steam baths, and relaxation zones offer plenty of ways to unwind, all while admiring the surrounding mountains.
Tip: To avoid the crowds, visit in the morning at opening time or in the evening after 6 pm.

Leukerbad perfectly blends outdoor activities with relaxation. Whether you’re looking for an active getaway or a wellness retreat, the mix of panoramic hikes, e-bike adventures, and thermal baths makes it a condensed version of the very best of Valais, all in a pristine alpine setting.
