Valais: Top 3 Beginner-Friendly Ski Touring Routes
Article updated on 27.11.25
Want to try ski touring without venturing off-piste?
Valais is full of routes that are perfect for getting started safely. These itineraries, often waymarked, let you experience skinning uphill before enjoying a smooth descent on groomed slopes.
Here are three accessible and varied routes, ideal for discovering ski touring while taking in beautiful Alpine views.
1. Rando-Parc La Téjeur in Vichères
🎿 6.6 km | +810 m
📍 Start: Vichères-Liddes ski lift parking
🏔️ Shorter option: stop at Tsamoney (4.1 km | +510 m)
From the main parking area, head to the right of the ski domain and follow the Movement Track markers.
The route begins gently, almost flat, before entering the forest. The ascent is progressive, perfect for finding your rhythm.
Little by little, the view opens onto the Val Ferret and, on the other side, the 4 Vallées ski area.
Near the top, you can choose to stop at Tsamoney, a beautiful panoramic plateau, or continue to the top of La Téjeur’s slopes. To continue, you’ll need to descend a bit before climbing again (so either remove your skins… or be very skilled 😉).
The descent is entirely on groomed slopes, ideal for beginners, with no stress.

2. Hôtel Weisshorn in Saint-Luc
🎿 4.8 km | +300 m
📍 Start: at the arrival of the Tignousa funicular
🍰 Mandatory stop: homemade tart at Hôtel Weisshorn
This is the perfect option for a gentle introduction. From Tignousa, follow the Chemin des Planètes trail before branching off onto the snowy road leading to Hôtel Weisshorn.
The ascent is steady and easy, offering stunning views over the Rhône Valley and the peaks of Val d’Anniviers.
After about an hour, the historic Hôtel Weisshorn appears, perched above the valley. It’s the perfect spot for a well-deserved break with their famous homemade fruit tart and a hot chocolate.
For the descent, follow the snowmobile road and join the groomed slopes down to Prilet. A free shuttle can take you back to the village if needed.

3. Cabane Brunet
🎿 5 km | +800 m
📍 Start: free parking (46.0418, 7.2759)
🫕 Food stop: fondue or tart at the hut
Wilder but still accessible, the climb to Cabane Brunet is a classic ski touring outing in Valais.
From the parking area above Lourtier, head right and follow the forest track. The route climbs through a beautiful larch forest before opening onto views of the Dents du Midi and the Verbier massif.
Don’t miss the left turn (46.04289, 7.26553) onto the trail. If you miss it, you’ll end up on the skiers’ descent route, and the climb will be looooong.
At the top, Cabane Brunet welcomes hikers with well-deserved mountain meals: fondue, soup of the day, or homemade tart.
The descent follows the snowmobile road, groomed and perfect for beginners.

Safety First
Even though some of these routes are waymarked and groomed, the mountains remain a unique environment. Before each outing, take time to check the weather, snow conditions, and local information about open routes.
Never head out without basic safety equipment (avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe), a helmet, and always inform someone of your plan. Safety is your best ally, even on the easiest tours.
These three ski touring routes are perfect for a first experience with climbing skins.
Between snowy forests, cosy mountain huts, and legendary alpine hotels, Valais once again proves it’s the perfect winter destination in Switzerland!
